March meeting, finally!

After blowing off (no pun intended) last Saturday's meeting because of snow, we finally had a great meeting! I didn't take as many photos as I could because my battery died on my camera (I KNEW I forgot to do something). Thanks to Jane, who let me borrow her phone, I did take a few more, which I'll add to this post.

Some very tragic news... a family in church (sits behind and across from my pew) had a tragic accident happen last week. Mom and toddler (being held) were burned while trying to save 3yr old who they heard screaming in kitchen. Young daughter apparently pushed chair up to the stove and climbed on top (did her foot turn on the burner-I'm presuming gas). Her clothes caught fire and mom tried to put them out. Older daughter went to Boston burn center, had surgery. We will be sending some kid quilts for her to choose (for both girls AND for whomever is her 'roommate' at the hospital and this quilt below will go to the family. Said some major prayers for them!

"Golden Acres"

 This poor quilt had some 'bubbles' in the outer area (it was pinned well and I didn't take out the pins until the stitching was finished- still.... Sorry ladies that had to rip stitches out). I repinned it and will finish the quilt before the next meeting. I want to name it "Tiler/Tyler" since it looks like floor tiles.

"Autumn Heartstring Panel" needed a label (done) and the binding flipped and hand stitched. Norma worked on that with Janet and Norma said she'll finish it at home. (thanks)

This little ditty is one of my personal ones. Needed to take a photo of the side pieces before attaching them. (The girls wanted to know what I"VE been doing with my extra days off (semi retired now). The outer borders are just selvedge edges sewn to a muslin foundation.

This one was finished by Norma over the last month. Just needed a label and done!

"Diamonds in the Skies"

Nice kids horse blanket.... Janet G made this for Jane's "project Linus " meeting on Mar 23rd. We'll get it finished for her. Thanks, Janet.

And of course, the ONLY way this "jar Quilt" will get done (have we had it 5 or 6 yrs in the making?), is if we work on it a little EVERY mtg! This meeting we added the top row and made the sides of the cupboard long enough.  All the shelves are done (I guess we can un-tag the rows now, LOL). Good job, ladies!

Start of our 10th Anniversary!!

Welcome back (this coming Saturday) to our 10th year!! We'll be meeting at St Mary's Episcopal church at 9am-3pm in Anderson Hall (Church ST side of the church). Bring your lunch if planning to stay for the day, or stop in for an hour or two.

We have plenty of quilts that we are sending to those displaced by Hurricane Harvey. I tried to fit them all in one box but alas, I couldn't lift the flippin' box!! HAHA. Now to find smaller boxes to put them in. Thanks to Jane Perrin (Project Linus fame) for donating 8 quilts for kids!! Pictures to be posted soon.

These next four were made by Kathy Siddons over the summer...  This first one was made by using leftover music fabric from Marilyn (she made placemats with the music fabric.) They are each made as a present.

This is just a few gray arrow designs (with a bright thin streak )... we need one more and then we'll use it as a center medallion for a future quilt.

This pile of blue strips will be put together for a backing for our blue stripes heartstring quilt (laying under the strips)... the reveal will have to wait for next month.

This is a quilt top made by Mary Ellen (dec.) a couple of years ago. We plan to add a navy blue thin inner border, with a cream wider border, then play it from there. The backing is pieced and will be enlarged to fit the top.

This is Delaney's first quilt. She is 16 yrs old, so don't think we're a bunch of old ladies! LOL... I think it's beautiful.... it's made without a pattern per se. The basic blocks are our heartstring blocks.

Auditioning a thin cream strip with an outer orange strip and maybe a larger fabric border that will be used on the backing.

Hurricane Sandy quilts delivered!

Oh, how I wish I had a photo of Ed Johnetta's face when she heard how many quilts we were donating! She was such a love to come and pick up the quilts we had for her chapter (Quilts for Kids). She was so excited to see it was me that she was dealing with (we'd just been emailing back and forth to set this up), and then to hear we had 30 quilts...., well, you'd have thought she died and went to heaven! She said the girls in her chapter usually make a pickup of a few quilts, maybe 5, but 30??!! Never!

After we got them loaded into her car, we discussed how important it was for both of us to make sure they got to help those in CT first (if possible), since we had such horrible devastation to our shoreline. Once she got them home, she sent us the email she sent to the regional chapter of Q4K, and a thank you to our group. Oh, Ed Johnetta, you have no idea how much we thank YOU. I only wish I could actually go with the quilts to see where they end up residing....

Another shipment off-Tornado Quilts

Today I sent off another shipment of quilts (actually, they were donated from the quilt-a-thon we had at church in March for Project Linus) to Sarah B in KY. She will see that they get to the victims of the tornadoes in the midwest. I'm including four pillowcases to wrap up the adult ones for delivery.

We sent off 10 baby/child quilts along with a good assortment of stuffed animals. We can't see sending a quilt to a little kid who's lost all their toys (or had the ones they found to be dirty/damaged), without also giving them something to cuddle up to.

Thanks to Jane who is in charge of the Project Linus event for donating these quilts.

Thanks to Ruth who donated some of her cherished teddy bears. There were only two that couldn't fit in the box of quilts, so we donated them to the church's annual May Fair (if we couldn't use them, that's were they were headed anyway).

We couldn't do it without the support of our family at church!!
