While we don't meet in July and August, that doesn't mean the quilting takes a break. Beyond my personal quilting, I've given the group 'homework' to bring to our mtg in Sept. (Blue or yellow centered Heartstring blocks).
I hope everyone's summer is going well so far. I've talked to some of you since our last mtg in June, but I've been 'playing' with my own projects, which makes me get ideas for our mtgs... I will post a photo or two for those not on our Facebook page (where I post much of our progress).
I finished 2 quilt tops and 2 pieced backings from my house, that I'm donating to the group. (One even has binding made). We'll sandwich them in October, since our Sept mtg is planned. One has a name of "Hashtag", the other is "Hidden Tigers" (UFO#6).
Maria has been working on a queen sized quilt for her bed and she's been "a responsible steward of our earth" by giving me all her scraps (vs the landfill-- although wouldn't that make for a very colorful pile of compost?) Lol... I took them all, added some leftover blocks from my Mardi Gras quilt, and hope to have them in a quilt top by next weekend. I've got ideas for outer 2 borders... just need a backing.
Pocket Prayers
My scrap quilt top, rows not sewn yet
This was Marias Quilt where i got my scraps from.
I've also been making MANY pocket prayers (in the quilted hearts shape) and will need them Blessed before they can go in the basket at church (giving you a heads up, Anne). Since end of May, over 100 made.
I met with Dee after a Sunday service to get an idea with one package of our orphans... which led me to take one of her greys, one of mine (grey is such a funny shade to match) and LOTS of selvedges and spit out 20 blocks (untrimmed as of yet) by Monday morning!! Selvedges are WAY too much fun to play with- and they move a block along SO FAST!!
Possible layout, with our original 20 blocks
I belong to a FB group that works with scraps and have gotten too excited about one of their suggestions when creating strings for blocks. They use orphan blocks by cutting the block up into strips to use in string blocks!! How colorful could THAT be??! I've done that in some HS blocks and called them 'broken heart string' blocks. They do add interest.
Oh, BTW, Dee asked if we are taking a trip to Mardens (,ME) this year.... I know Jane can't, as her schedule is nuts, but I'm wondering who would be able to go if we chose a date in Mid Sept/or Oct (after tourists leave)? I'm willing to drive. Let me know if it's a yes/no/maybe....
I think I've caught everyone up.
Let me know how every one's doing and your thoughts on our plans/ideas.
Have I told you ladies how proud I am of all that you ladies do!!???
Take care...
Nancy
